Mindset Mastery: The Language of Letting Go

Mindset Mastery: The Language of Letting Go

What does it feel like when you try to let go of something you’ve been holding onto for a long time? Well, this weekend I found out.

Yesterday, I launched my 21-Day Whole-Life Decluttering Challenge in The Seva Circle. Before we jumped into cleaning and clearing, I felt it was important to acknowledge mental clutter and the emotions that are often tied to it. I shared a few journal prompts to help us explore our emotions and hosted a live breathwork and visualization practice to envision a life without the emotional weight of sabotaging thoughts that accompany clutter.

You see, clutter isn’t just about messy closets or overstuffed drawers—it’s emotional. It can weigh on our minds, tug at our energy, and cloud our sense of peace. Whether it’s a cluttered kitchen counter, a packed calendar, or racing thoughts, clutter shows up in many forms—and it quietly affects how we feel, how we live, and how we show up for ourselves.

Most of us don’t realize how deeply clutter impacts our emotional well-being. It can trigger feelings of overwhelm, frustration, guilt, or even shame. It can feel like a constant hum in the background of your life—stealing focus, zapping motivation, and making it harder to breathe, think, or rest.

Physical clutter often mirrors mental and emotional clutter. Piles of paperwork may represent unmade decisions and issues we just don’t want to deal with. Clothes that no longer fit may symbolize outdated versions of yourself you’re afraid to release. A cluttered mind filled with racing thoughts may be a signal you need space—mentally and emotionally. What we tell ourselves over and over again is, “I’ll just deal with it later.” The problem is that later never comes. Bills pile up. Relationships never get healed. And you never get to meet the next best version of yourself.

How Does Clutter Impact Your Health?

As we discussed yesterday, clutter not only has physical weight—it has mental weight as well. Every pile, every drawer bursting at the seams, every unfinished task in your environment quietly pulls at your focus and drains your energy.

This constant low-level stress can make it harder to make clear decisions about your health, prioritize your needs, or find the motivation for the things that truly matter—like nourishing your body, moving with joy, meditating, or simply breathing deeply. Over time, this weight takes a toll—not just on your space, but on your well-being and your ability to live longer and live better.

Here’s what a few of the women shared:

“This clutter just makes me feel drained…”

“I keep looking at these old clothes and it’s a version of myself that doesn’t even exist anymore.”

“Overwhelmed. That’s the first word that comes to mind. I don’t even know where to start my day…”

“I missed out on a big opportunity recently…all because of this clutter in my email box.”

Mindset Mastery Action Step: Tap Into The Emotion of Clutter

Clearing clutter isn’t just about tidying up—it’s about creating room for the life you truly want. By connecting with the emotions behind clutter, you gain insight into what’s been holding you back—and reclaim the power to release it.

You’re not just decluttering stuff—you’re releasing emotional weight, realigning with your purpose, and rising into your full potential.

Here are a few of the journal prompts we discussed that I invite you to explore also. Find a quiet place and ask yourself:

  1. When I think about clutter in my life, I feel…
  2. The areas of clutter that cause me the most stress are…
  3. If this clutter could speak, it would say…
  4. What am I afraid might happen if I let it go—or what might be possible if I did?
