Appointments

At Seva Health, healthcare is not just another appointment. It’s a personal experience.

Have you answered NO to any of the following questions lately?

  • My doctor finds the root cause of my symptoms and asks me questions about my diet, sleep, and mental stress
  • My doctor orders special labs to check for vitamin deficiencies, hormone imbalances and my gut health before prescribing medication
  • My doctor makes the science simple and takes the time needed to educate me about my health concerns
  • My doctor is open to the full range of treatment options, including natural supplements, acupuncture, meditation, and massage
  • When I leave my doctor’s office I completely understand what I need to do and why I need to do it

If you answered no to any of these questions it may be time to experience the Seva difference.

How we serve you

We believe that good health is more than an annual physical, a set of labs and a “normal” weight on a scale. Good health is also having the knowledge, skills and empowerment that you need to take control of your health.

This is why integrative health and lifestyle medicine is the model of our care.

Owned and operated by Angel Shannon, a board certified nurse practitioner celebrating thirty years in healthcare, Seva Health is founded upon the belief that the one size-fits-all, quick fixes, fad diets and the pills-first driven approach to healthcare is a thing of the past.

In addition to adult integrative health and wellness services at our Pikesville Maryland office, our Seva Seniors Care™  program provides needed support for seniors too.

Disclaimer: Virtual health consultations are NOT provided for emergency conditions such as chest pain, head injuries, fainting, uncontrolled bleeding, broken bones, major burns, head injuries, suicidal thoughts or any condition that would be considered life threatening. These conditions require immediate evaluation in the hospital emergency room setting.  We do not provide psychotherapy however we do collaborate with highly experienced, licensed and credentialed mental health professionals and will readily provide referrals for psychological and psychiatric care when needed.

Virtual consultations consist of recommendations for improving your health and may include specialized laboratory testing to establish an integrative treatment plan for optimal health and vitality. Prescription medications cannot be provided for you unless you are seen in person or virtually in the state of Maryland.  For conditions that are determined to be severe or warrant face-to-face evaluation, we will ask that you find a provider in your local area and will assist with care coordination.

How it works: FAQs

1) Will Seva Health accept my insurance?

Seva Health currently accepts CareFirst Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Medicare (Part B), Railroad Medicare and Aetna as primary insurances.  For your convenience we accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express.  We do not accept checks for payment nor do we carry or exchange cash in our office.

2) What if I do not have insurance or have a high-deductible plan?

We believe that all health care is necessary care. Our unique practice model is structured to accommodate all patients whether you have insurance or not.  We are also an excellent option for individuals who have high insurance deductibles and are paying high out of pocket fees. Need a payment plan? Just ask!

3) I see the website mentions terms like integrative healthcare and lifestyle medicine. Does insurance cover that?

At Seva Health, we use an integrative approach to all of the care we give. Integrative medicine is not a separate set of services — it’s the model of our practice. Functional lab tests and nutritional supplements to optimize your health is all included are rarely covered by insurance so please be prepared to cover those costs separately.

4) What if I need x-rays or other diagnostic tests?

As a local, privately owned practice we know our patients and the local economy well.  We strive to keep your costs as low as possible and will only order  x-rays, CAT scans or other diagnostic tests that we determine are needed.  We will provide a written order for you to have those tests done and the results sent directly to us.

5) What about getting my labs done?

No problem.  Lab orders are provided during your appointment and in between appointments by request.  As an integrative health practice focused on disease prevention, we partner with Quest Diagnostics and LabCorp for routine labs and several functional medicine laboratories like Sanesco Health and  Vibrant Wellness to help you obtain the more specialized tests you need. Sanesco Health and Vibrant are fully accredited clinical laboratories, recognized internationally for their support of providers like us who wish to provide more personalized treatment and prevention of chronic disease.

6) Can I keep my current primary care physician?

At Seva Health we believe that continuous care is better care.  Therefore we encourage you to making Seva Health your “home” for all of your health and wellness needs.  We ask that you notify your previous primary care provider of your intention and have your medical records transferred to us.  Records may be sent by mail to our address.

Please note that if Seva Health is not your primary care provider (PCP) we will not be able to refill prescriptions written by your other providers. Seva Health will not prescribe controlled substances such as narcotics without previous medical records and a thorough history and physical examination.

7) How will Seva Health maintain my medical records?

At Seva Health, we want more time to spend with you, not with unneeded paperwork. We are committed to sustainability and environmental stewardship, which means we make sure that every aspect of our business practice is ‘Earth friendly.’ We use a computerized wireless Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and encourage our patients and families to use our HIPAA compliant, fully encrypted patient portal to access their medications, lab results, and more.

8) What if I need to see a specialist?

No problem. Having worked in Greater Baltimore for 30 years, Mrs. Shannon has strong professional relationships with highly experienced specialists who will provide you exceptional care.  We will happily provide you with referrals when needed.

9) How do you handle emergencies and urgent care?

Seva Health provides primary care and virtual lifestyle medicine/integrative health coaching services only. Please dial 911 for any urgent or emergent health care needs.

10) What if I am admitted to the hospital?

When our patients are hospitalized we ask that you (or a caregiver) notify us by telephone so that we may update our records accordingly.  We participate in Maryland’s Chesapeake Regional Information System for our Patients (CRISP) and are able to collaborate with other providers to get up to date information on your hospitalization.  Once discharged, we ask that you schedule a follow up appointment to review your hospital discharge orders, refill prescriptions and provide referrals to any specialists that are needed.  Our goal at Seva Health is to help you get settled back in at home and reduce your risk of going back to the hospital again.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE REGARDING INSURANCES

In an effort to avoid misunderstandings and keep the cost of billing to a minimum, we are presenting the following transparent statement of our office polices concerning payments for services.

We are happy to provide services for those insured by Medicare (Part B), Care First, and Aetna as primary insurances, however, INSURANCE COVERAGE IS A CONTRACT BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY. We ask that you read your policy and contact the member services department of your policy holder to be sure that you are aware of any limitations of the benefits provided. It is important to understand that in most cases, your insurance is designed to reduce your costs for healthcare, not eliminate it altogether. This means you should expect to pay, at minimum, a co-payment and your required deductible.

While we wish insurances would cover the costs for functional medicine testing, evaluation, and lifestyle recommendations, more often than not, they won’t. We do not have the capacity to appeal their decisions on your behalf. This means that should you elect to have functional lab testing done (including genetic testing) be prepared to cover these costs on your own. MasterCard, Visa and American Express payments are accepted.

You are ultimately responsible for the full amount of your bill regardless of your insurance coverage. While we make every effort to verify that your policy is active and that you are a member, there is no possible way for us to verify the rules of your specific plan. Therefore, it is not the responsibility of this office to verify insurance coverage, rules, maximum out-of-pocket expenses, minimums, deductibles, etc and we ask that you verify this information before scheduling an appointment.

We will submit a claim for payment to the insurance companies listed above, however, if several attempts are made to receive insurance payment from either a primary or secondary insurance and payment is denied we will bill you directly for our services and request that you contact your insurance company directly to rectify the matter for your reimbursement.

Should you have any questions about our policy, please contact our office directly at 410-299-3803 and ask to speak to our billing specialist.
