04 Nov Mindset Mastery: The Power of Disruption
Life is full of unknowns. It’s full of twists and turns that disrupt our plans and cause us to question our dreams. But what I’ve learned is that we can either train to learn how to hit the curveballs of life or we can walk off the field altogether and complain about how it’s all so unfair. The choice is always ours.
You see, disruption isn’t always a bad thing. Once we get past our clouded judgement and negative emotions we can see how a dose of disruption can wake us up and shake us into action. Disruption creates just enough urgency to pull us out of our comfort zones and get serious about this thing called life.
A shakeup in the economy can force us to tighten our belts and prioritize our spending. A job loss can make us re-evaluate our careers. A hurricane can teach us how important it is to always be prepared.
But we don’t have to wait for the force of disruption to happen to us and pray that it happens for us…we can learn how to disrupt ourselves.
What I want you to ask yourself this week is who will you no longer allow yourself to be?
If you dream of having millions saved for retirement are you willing to become a person who stops spending and starts investing?
If you dream of winning a 10K race are you willing to become a person who stops sitting and starts running every day?
If you dream of a life full of adventurous travel are you willing to become a person who makes their health a priority to make that dream a reality?
To have what you’ve never had, you have to be willing to be who you’ve never been.

Mindset Mastery Action Step:
A common trait of highly successful people is that they learn how to disrupt their own negative thinking. They use the power of self-disruption to turn doubt into decision, flip fear into faith, and trade excuses for action. They know that their only real problem is the way they think about the problem.
Use the following journal prompt to explore how self-sabotage is likely showing up in your life:
Prompt 1: Uncovering the Excuses Holding You Back
Think about a recent goal you set but haven’t made progress on. What excuses did you tell yourself for not taking action (e.g., “I’m too busy,” “It’s not the right time”)? What feelings or fears were underneath these excuses?
Now, ask yourself: How has holding onto these excuses prevented you from becoming the person you want to be? If you could work with a coach to stop making these excuses, what would that free you to accomplish?
Prompt 2: Breaking Free from Excuse-Making
Reflect on an area of your life where you feel stuck. What excuses do you repeatedly make to avoid moving forward? How do these excuses make you feel about yourself? How are they keeping you in a cycle of self-sabotage?
Next, consider: Who will you no longer allow yourself to be? What could change in your life if you no longer made these excuses? What’s one small step you can take today to break free from this pattern, and how could a deeper conversation with a coach help you take that next step?
