Mindset Mastery: Your Soulful Passion

Mindset Mastery: Your Soulful Passion

Hello friend,

Lately I’ve been hearing a lot about passion. Not the passion of roses and chocolates and red hearts but the kind of passion that makes you leap out of bed every morning to go off into the world and do work that you love. Work that ‘makes an impact’ and ‘changes the world.’ Work that will land you on a stage in a fancy dress or designer tuxedo accepting a humanitarian award and thanking your sixth grade teacher, your mother and father, and best friends from high school. Work that makes a difference.

Social media is filled with stories of work passion. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t read about someone who is quitting a job, starting a business, and following their passion. In fact, just last month I met a woman who quit a six figure job where she said she was bored, unfulfilled, and already at the top of her organizational ladder. “There’s just no room for growth there,” she said. “So I’m leaving.”

If you’re anything like me, these stories may make you wonder..

It made me think about my grandfather who built the homes that he and my grandmother and great-grandmother lived in on there five acres of land in rural Georgia. With not even a high school diploma, he’d worked odd jobs here and there in New York by day (and at an occasional speak-easy at night) just to make enough money to send back home to his mother and younger siblings.

It made me think about the Vietnamese doctor I worked with after finishing graduate school. On my first day of work he told me the story of how his mother had rolled three one-hundred dollar bills into a cigar, double wrapped it in plastic, tucked it into his shirt pocket, and put him on a boat headed to Germany at the age of 17 so that he could have a chance at college. It was her entire savings earned by scrubbing the floors of fisherman’s boats.

It made me think about my own mother who raised six children on her own in Brooklyn, New York in the 1970s and how little passion there must have been on her night job in telemarketing and her day job as an accounting clerk.

More importantly, it makes me think about myself and you, too.

What I hope you will remember this week is that you are strong for still getting out of bed in the morning when there is no passion for the work you’re heading to.

You are brave for still showing up to life everyday when you are afraid and anxious.

You are amazing for holding on no matter how hard life gets.

You are doing the work that needs to be done to feed your family.

You are doing the work that needs to be done to keep a roof over your head.

You are doing the work that often leaves you tired, frustrated, and unfulfilled.

I see your pain. I also see your courage. I know you can do hard things… because you already are.

Creativity, not work, is what will restore the passion in our lives. Creativity through writing, singing, dancing, gardening, painting, and connection with others is what will heal our weary souls. It always has and it always will.

Art, as Pablo Picasso once said, is what washes away the dust of everyday life.

Art, in whatever way you define it and create it, is what will restore your soulful passion.

If you are yearning for more joy, fun, and true passion in your life I invite you to come to one of my next FREE events in The Seva Circle, my private membership community.

We are a small virtual circle of women on the journey to create better health, more harmony, and lasting happiness.

We do this through creative events, fun monthly challenges, and virtual meetups that restore the kind of meaningful connection we all need more of in our lives.
