Mindset Mastery: Wish For The Week Ahead

Mindset Mastery: Wish For The Week Ahead

Hello friend,

I have to apologize for not sending your issue of Mindset Mastery last Monday. I had one of those kinds of weekends that spilled over into the week with several days worth of unexpected twists, turns, and curve balls from left field. Sadly enough, it didn’t stop there. Like an avalanche, one small snowflake of a problem became a snowball, quickly gathering speed.

I’ll spare you the details because I’m sure you can relate to those life circumstances that feel like they’re spinning out of control. Not to mention emotions like fear and frustration that come along with it.

But what I’ve learned is that most of the time these are the very moments that become our greatest teachers. They have a way of testing our patience and our practice – are we truly who we say we are?

Are we victims who only complain about how hard life is or are we victors who dig in our heels and find the resources and solutions we need for our circumstances?

Are we bitterly questioning ‘why is this happening to me?’ or are we beacons of light, holding gratitude in our hearts because we know for sure that no matter how bad our circumstances may be in the moment it could always be worse.

Are we fearful and frustrated, making everyone else around us fearful and frustrated, or can we sit with the unknown for just a moment and learn how to find the lessons within?

What I hope you will remember this week is that grace, gratitude, light, love and patience are the best medicines in tough times and the quicker you give those medicines to yourself, the easier it is to give to others.

When you’re feeling like the wind has been knocked out of your sails, remind yourself that this, too, shall pass.

When you’re feeling like the ground is shaky beneath you, remind yourself of the things that you can control.

When you’re feeling down and doubtful of your abilities, remind yourself that you’re doing the best you can.

This week, may you stay in gratitude no matter how challenging life may be.

May you take every opportunity to listen well, love deeply, and laugh with someone who really needs it.

For Your Practice:

Whether it’s through soothing melodies, rhythmic beats, or uplifting lyrics, incorporating music into our daily routine can provide a powerful antidote to the pressures of modern life, offering moments of peace and tranquility in the midst of chaos. Music is good for medicine for our physical and mental health and helps with:

  1. Reduction in Cortisol Levels: Listening to music has been shown to decrease the levels of cortisol, often referred to as the stress hormone, in the body. High levels of cortisol can contribute to feelings of anxiety and overwhelm. By lowering cortisol levels, music helps induce a state of relaxation, calming both the mind and body.
  2. Activation of the Parasympathetic Nervous System: Certain types of music, particularly slow, calming melodies, have the power to activate the parasympathetic nervous system. This part of the nervous system is responsible for promoting a state of relaxation and rest, counteracting the effects of the sympathetic nervous system, which is associated with the body’s stress response. As a result, listening to soothing music can help regulate heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing, creating an overall sense of calmness.
  3. Enhancement of Mood and Emotional Well-being: Music has a profound effect on emotions. It can evoke feelings of joy, nostalgia, or tranquility, depending on the genre and tempo. When we listen to music that resonates with us, our brains release neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin, which are associated with pleasure and happiness. This mood-enhancing effect of music can be particularly beneficial during times of stress, helping to lift our spirits and shift our focus away from negative thoughts.

This week, start your day with intention, pause at midday for re-centering, create an environment that supports deep rest at night.

These three extended tracks of calm and peaceful music are perfect for morning meditation, midday rejuvenation and restful, rejuvenating sleep at night.

Track 1: Morning Song: gentle flute, bass and piano with wistful sounds of birdsong and soft strings.

Track 2: River Song: gentle piano over soothing ocean waves.

Track 3: Good Night’s Sleep: solo harp and evening nature sounds to lull you into a deep, restful sleep.
