Mindset Mastery: What You Do Every Day

Mindset Mastery: What You Do Every Day

Hello friend,

Last week I was talking to a friend of mine about her morning routine. She has been off and on with yoga for years but really wants this year to be the year she cements in a consistent practice. Like me, the cold winter days make it hard to get out of the bed in the morning and some days she doesn’t want to get out at all. There’s also the stress of modern day life, constantly juggling so many balls at one time and the desire she has to regulate that better through yoga. She bought a new planner for herself for Christmas, downloaded an app that provides practice sequences reminders and picked up some nice new candles to help ‘set the vibe.’ Her plan was to get to bed earlier in the evening so that getting up earlier in the morning wouldn’t be so hard.

But one week into her new morning routine she got news of a big project that her organization has taken on for this year and the offer for her to take on a lead role. It will involve earlier mornings, later evenings and even some regional travel. “Well, maybe I can still fit it in a few evenings a week,” she said sadly. We both knew that her brand new goal of having a consistent yoga practice to help manage her stress would soon be on the back burner.

There comes a point that we have to make tough decisions about who it is we really want to become. It’s less about goals and New Year resolutions and more about the bigger WHY that punctuates our lives.

Maybe the big WHY for you is that you’re tired of not feeling your very best, so it’s time to finally commit to a gym or studio.

Maybe the big WHY for you is that you’re tired of not feeling focused, so it’s time to build a routine and eliminate distractions.

What I hope you will remember this week is that what you do every day is more important than what you do once in a while because consistency is the compass that leads to your North Star.

Practicing yoga a few times a week is not the same as practicing every day.

Meditating when you find a few minutes is not the same as committing to meditation every day.

Writing a few paragraphs of your dream best-selling novel is not the same as writing every day.

Because as the saying goes, if you want something you’ve never had you’ve got to do something you’ve never done.

This Thursday evening marks the launch of a new monthly meetup in The Seva Circle. While each of us has different goals that we’re working on, the thread that brings us together is the knowing that journaling is a powerful practice for self-discovery, self-awareness, and holding ourselves accountable to our dreams and goals. Journaling is also a powerful practice for helping us gain the clarity about what’s most important in our lives, the courage to create a vision of it, and the confidence to start walking towards it.

For Your Practice:

If you are tired of seeing your goals slip through your hands year after year and want to put an end to the ‘on and off and on again’ pattern in your life, here are a few journal prompts to get you started:

  • Reflect on Your Core Values. Take some time this week to identify and reflect on your core values. What principles and beliefs are fundamental to who you are? List at least five values that resonate with you on a deep level. Once you have your list, explore how these values align with your current routines and daily activities. Ask yourself: how can I prioritize these values in my daily life to take action and create a sense of purpose and fulfillment.
  • Design Your Ideal Day: Imagine your ideal day from the moment you wake up until you go to bed. What activities, relationships, and experiences make this day perfect for you? Be specific about the details and emotions associated with each aspect. Now, compare this ideal day with your current daily routine. What elements can you integrate or modify to bring your routine closer to your ideal day? Use this reflection as a guide to make intentional changes that align with your priorities and bring more joy and meaning into your life.

Remember that when it comes to your personal journal practice you don’t need perfect sentences nor perfect punctuation. You can scribble, erase, cross out and be as messy as you’d like. Your journal is for you.

And if it either of these journal prompts still feel hard just click REPLY and say “Angel, I need support with this, I want to join you on Thursday” and I’ll send you the Zoom link to join us on Thursday, January 18th at 7PM ET.

I’d love to see this year be the year you design the life you deserve.

Wishing you an amazing week friend,

Be well. Be love(d). Be good to yourself,
