27 Jan Mindset Mastery: Small Effort, Big Change
I have to admit we’re only 27 days into 2025 and unfortunately, I’ve already lapsed on one of my most important goals: daily morning meditation practice. Let me explain how it happened in case this has happened to you, too.
I had the best processes in place: a daily alarm, a tracker for accountability, and a journal to reflect on my practice. I was on a roll until Thursday morning when my schedule changed, Friday when I had a day full of travel, and Saturday morning when I woke up late and felt too tired.
For three days in a row, I missed my morning meditation practice, but here’s what I did instead: I gave myself grace. I reminded myself that it’s not about being perfect; it’s about the effort. Instead of beating myself up, I acknowledged the obstacles that got in the way and made a plan to get back on track.
On Sunday morning, I started fresh. I set my alarm the night before, put my journal and meditation cushion where I could easily see them, and committed to just five minutes of mindfulness. That small effort reminded me how powerful it feels to show up for myself—even if it’s not perfect, even if I missed a few days.
What I’ve learned from this experience is that consistency doesn’t mean perfection. It means showing up as best you can, over and over again. The truth is, life happens. Schedules shift, travel gets hectic, and some days you feel like you just can’t. But when you bring effort—even a small one—you can pick yourself back up and keep moving forward.
This week Reader I hope you’ll remember that every effort made to silence your inner critic and train your mind towards a more life-affirming mindset is time well spent.
No matter how old or young you are, you can learn how to put self-sabotaging thoughts to an end and silence the inner critic that’s been holding you back from your most important goals.
