26 Feb Mindset Mastery: Pour From Overflow
Hello friend, Last week I ran into a former co-worker whom I’d worked with many moons ago. I was so happy to see her and spend more than a few minutes catching up. “Wow! How are you doing?!” I asked. “I’m good,” she said. “I’m hanging in there.” We stepped out of the cold and into the warmth of the hotel lobby where I get my usual Tuesday afternoon Starbucks cappuccino pick-me-up before T’ai Chi class. We shared a few updates on where we are in our lives: she’s a first time grandmother, the owner of a new event planning business she started on the side during the pandemic, and the new manager at the hospital we’d both worked in. It was a promotion she “kinda-sorta” wanted but hadn’t seen coming. Like many, she was quickly ushered into the position after the pandemic forced several members in leadership into retirement. As I picked up my cappuccino, I shared all that’s going on at Seva Health and my excitement about my upcoming women’s retreat. “My goodness, that sounds like something I need. But I can’t even imagine having time like that,” she laughed. “You know that whole place would fall apart.” As we said our farewells and went our separate ways, I thought back to the years we’d worked together in the ICU. The nights when the ER was on red-alert and the ambulances diverted simply because we couldn’t fit another patient on another gurney in the already crowded hallways. The nights when heart monitor alarms went off minutes before shift change and our twelve hour shifts became sixteen. The nights when we took turns going to the vending machine to grab yet another cup of black coffee, a Snicker’s bar or bag of Skittles just to keep ourselves awake. More importantly, I wondered if she remembered those nights too.
What I hope you will remember this week is that there is no one in the world who deserves your love, care, kindness and compassion more than you. You deserve an opportunity to refill your own cup. You deserve quiet moments to replenish your soul. You deserve to let the world of your busy life go on without you for a little while. You deserve to be so full of your self – your laughter, your joy, your happiness – that you have enough of yourself to share with others when you return.
For Your Practice: Overflow is what allows us to meet the world in a flourishing and abundant state of mind – we are no longer just ‘hanging in there’ to survive. Overflow allows us to thrive. If you are tired of feeling like you’re just barely hanging on and want to see and feel more overflow in your life, here are a few journal prompts to get you started:
Remember that when it comes to your personal journal practice you don’t need perfect sentences nor perfect punctuation. You can scribble, erase, cross out and be as messy as you’d like. Your journal is for you.
If the very idea of having time to yourself this year to renew, refresh, and reinvent a life of overflow sounds like exactly what you want and need I invite you to join me in September for my second annual Design The Life You Deserve retreat. Early Bird Registration opening March 11, 2024. Join the announcement list TODAY. Your life of overflow is calling you. All you need to do is answer.
Wishing you an amazing week friend, Be well. Be love(d). Be good to yourself, |
