27 Mar Mindset Mastery: Let Your Life Speak
Do you remember when you were in elementary school and your best friend rescued you from a kid who was teasing you and said, ‘don’t cry?’
How about your first day at college, first day on a new job, or first BIG date … did the people who knew you best say, ‘oh, don’t worry’…?
That’s because strong emotions make people uncomfortable. Strong emotions like fear, sadness, anxiety, and anger create sensations in our bodies that are difficult to sit with. Strong emotions also conjure up memory of past experiences that are often unhealed and unresolved. When we see someone we love or care about crying, worried, or fearful our human tendency is to grab the forklift and help them push it away.
What’s important for you to remember this week is that your feelings are messengers. They are there to tell you something if you’re willing to listen.
The gift of being human is that we have the ability to feel.
At any given time we can feel love, joy, happiness, sadness, worry, apathy, anger … and then come right back around to love again.
This week it would be great if you could practice letting yourself just feel what you feel.
Have a look at the Emotions Wheel that I use in my clinical and coaching practice and see if what you’re feeling is actually something deeper or something more important. For example, many times what we call anger is really frustration, disappointment, and a general feeling of being let down. Apathy can be a sign that it’s time to slow down, rest, and give yourself a break for a while.
Let’s go deeper in your journal practice this week and ask what messages there are in your emotions.
Let’s start getting to the root of what’s really coming up for you.
Let’s help your life speak to you in ways that it never has.
And in the meantime, if you need a little help figuring out how to navigate these strong emotions just click the button to say Yes, I’d love some support.
