Foggy and forgetful? Here’s help.

Your weekly housecall filled with everything you need to know to live longer and live betternaturally. Missed an issue or want to forward to a friend? Find it all right here.

Hello there, friend!

Are you constantly battling anxiety, sleepless nights, or that all-too-familiar mental fatigue? With constant ping notifications are you starting to feel more forgetful? These days it can feel like you’re stuck in a whirlwind of fog and overwhelm, juggling responsibilities while struggling to manage your time and health. If you find yourself grabbing whatever’s handy, skipping meals, or feeling like you’re running on empty, you’re not alone.

In my functional medicine practice, I frequently work with clients who are concerned about brain health and looking for ways to feel sharper, more energized and more productive. It’s natural for people to want to protect their cognitive abilities as they age, and the idea of a diet that could shield us from dementia is highly appealing.

September 21st is World Alzheimer’s Month, and to recognize the day, let’s take a look at how lifestyle medicine practices can support your brain health.

The Link Between Diet and Memory Loss

There is strong evidence connecting diet to brain health, especially cognitive decline. Nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and B vitamins are crucial for optimal brain function. Diets like the Mediterranean and MIND diets, rich in whole foods, have shown promise in reducing the risk of dementia. These eating plans emphasize fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and healthy fats like avocado and olive oil, while limiting red meat, saturated fats, and sugary foods.

I help my clients feel better fast by focusing on the one thing that I know we all struggle with most: meal planning. Because many have been doing the ‘grab-and-go’ approach that I used to do myself, I may also recommend specific supplements to address nutrient deficiencies and support cognitive function in conjunction with a whole-food diet.

Beyond Diet: A Holistic Approach

Though diet is a key factor, dementia is a complex condition influenced by many elements. Lifestyle factors such as regular exercise, sufficient sleep, stress management, and social engagement are essential for maintaining brain health. Additionally, chronic conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease can increase dementia risk.

I know how daunting it can be to navigate these challenges alone.

That’s why I’m inviting you to be a part of a vibrant virtual community where you can turn your struggles into solutions, and make lasting changes with support from others who want to feel sharper, more energized and more productive, just like you.
