When was the first time you learned the old saying to ‘trust your gut?’ How many times has your gut led you wrong?

There’s a reason why that old saying never gets old. While it may be true in many cases, let’s talk about when it isn’t.

At one point or another we’re all going to experience circumstances when decisions need to be made but information is lacking. There are also times when a challenge presents itself that conflicts with what we know, trust, or believe. In these circumstances, when facts are missing, all that we can rely on is feeling.

Our minds are hard-wired for safety and security and often relies heavily on feelings. Gut feelings and that ‘sixth sense’ that seems to come from nowhere is really the product of first impressions and swift brain processing that automatically compares the perceived elements of the current experience (what is happening now) with past experience and knowledge (what happened before) to predict and prepare for what will happen next. We call it intuition.

But like most first impressions, sometimes our minds get it right and sometimes it doesn’t.

You see Reader, your mind can be your best friend and it can also be your own worst enemy. Think back to the times when you wanted to follow your heart but because of past disappointments and fear of failure your mind wouldn’t let you do it.

Maybe it was a new job that your heart wanted but your mind warned you with “don’t jump out of the frying pan into the fire.”

Maybe it was a new relationship that you heart desired but your mind warned you with “nobody has luck with those dating apps, it’s all a joke.”

Maybe it was a course you wanted to invest in to start a new venture but your mind scolded you with “are you kidding? Don’t waste your time or your money. You know nothing about running a business.”

And how many times have you sat back and wished you had the courage to take the chance?

Your Zone of Genius: Where The Magic Happens

What I want you to remember this week Reader is that your zone of genius is always going to be found outside of your comfort zone.

Your Zone of Genius is where you are exceptional at what you do. It’s where your level of intellect, wisdom and mastery shows up at its best without your mind interfering with judgement, fear, doubt or criticism simply because you are THAT GOOD.

Your Zone of Genius is where your heart skips a beat knowing that everything is aligned. It’s where you show up with the clarity, courage and confidence to make things happen – you don’t have to be dragged into action because you wake up every day pulled by your own internal inspiration.

Your Zone of Genius is where you find the most joy, the greatest happiness, and the deepest sense of fulfillment simply because you’re expressing outwardly who you really are, inwardly.

I believe it’s time for all of us to find our Zone Of Genius. Time to start working smarter, not harder. Time to start thriving, not just surviving.
