29 Apr Mindset Mastery: The Power of Now
Hello friend, What have you been waiting for? Are you waiting until you lose a few more pounds or get a little more flexible before you sign up for the gym classes you’ve been wanting to try out? Are you waiting until you get all of your ducks in a row before you start the business you’ve been dreaming of? Do you ever hear yourself saying, “As soon as I tie up all the loose ends I’ll get started …?” or “Once I get past this I’ll get going….?” Today, I want us to be honest together: the loose ends of life will always be loose and whatever you are waiting to get past will always be replaced by another thing to get past. I remember when I was working long twelve hour night shifts in the ICU, dreaming of a life that didn’t require sleeping all day so that I could keep my eyes open at night. A normal life where I could enjoy camping and swim meets with my kids on the weekends, not pushing heavy beds and I.V. poles to the O.R. and not running down long halls to grab defibrillators and cardiac arrest crash carts. I dreamed of going back to school to create the life I really wanted in private practice as a nurse practitioner. I was waiting for my kids to get a little older. I was waiting for my husband’s work schedule to get a little lighter. I was waiting for us to get a few more bills paid up and paid off. I was waiting until I couldn’t wait anymore. My shifts got longer. My work got heavier. And my children’s lives only got busier and busier. On the night of one of the worst blizzards in East Coast history, I decided I couldn’t take it anymore. I took the leap and committed to four years of full time study (and student loans I wasn’t sure I could even afford!) to get to the goal of becoming a nurse practitioner. The fear of not knowing if it would all work out no longer exceeded the pain of staying where I was.
What I hope you will remember this week is that readiness and perfect conditions are simply a mirage. There is almost no such thing as being ready. There is only the power of now. Everything you’ve accomplished in your life has been the result of believing in yourself and discovering the courage you didn’t think you had. This week you owe it to yourself to find that same courage again to achieve your deepest desires.
Proud moments: I survived graduate school! University of Maryland (Baltimore) School of Nursing Grad!

Remember that when it comes to your personal journal practice you don’t need perfect sentences nor perfect punctuation. You can scribble, erase, cross out and be as messy as you’d like.
