It’s National Women’s Checkup Day! Are you up-to-date?

Your weekly housecall filled with everything you need to know to live longer and live betternaturally. Missed an issue or want to forward to a friend? Find it all right here.

Hello there, friend!

Not only is May Women’s Health Month, but today is National Women’s Checkup Day. No matter what our age, there are always important tests we should be adding beyond our annual physical.

Prioritizing regular check-ups with your healthcare provider, even when you’re feeling fantastic, can be a game-changer. It’s about catching potential issues early on before they have a chance to potentially harm your health long-term.

Here are a few tests that every woman should have on her radar:

  1. Blood Pressure: Keep tabs on your blood pressure. If it’s in the normal range (below 120/80 mmHg), aim for a check-up at least every year. If it tends to veer higher, more frequent monitoring is advisable.
  2. Heart Health: an annual EKG and echocardiogram is essential for making sure there are no dangerous heart rhythms that could lead to a stroke or sudden cardiac death
  3. Breast Cancer: Know your breasts like the back of your hand and be vigilant about any changes. Screening recommendations from the American Cancer Society vary by age group and family risk factors.
  4. Pelvic Exams: Regular gynecologic exams and Pap tests are crucial for detecting cervical cancer and pelvic cancers early on. The frequency varies based on age and individual risk factors as well.
  5. Colon Cancer: Screening for colon cancer should begin at age 45, with options like colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy. Family history and personal health background may prompt earlier or more frequent screenings.
  6. Cholesterol: Keep an eye on your cholesterol levels, adhering to the recommended testing intervals starting from age 20.
  7. Bone Density: For women, bone density tests become important at age 65 to assess the risk of osteoporosis.
  8. Diabetes: Blood tests for diabetes should commence at age 45, with considerations for earlier screenings based on risk factors.
  9. Skin Cancer: Regular skin checks, especially for those with sun exposure history, are essential for detecting any suspicious moles or changes in skin appearance. Skin checks can begin at any age and are advised every two years unless otherwise recommended by a healthcare professional.

Want to take it to the next level of prevention? Here are a few more:

  1. Macro + Micronutrient testing to identify nutritional deficiencies
  2. Oxidative Stress Marker testing to lower your risk of free radical cell damage
  3. Gut microbiome testing to assess digestive health and absorption
  4. Brown Bag Checkup of all medications and supplements to check for possible interactions.

While these screenings are important, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is key! Remember to nourish your body with wholesome foods, stay active, and protect yourself from excessive sun exposure.

Remember – Prevention is better than cure!
